R50 trackpad and nav pointer don't work

Hi, I have an R 50 Type 1836-3SU that suddenly the nav pointer and trackpad both no longer work.
I've checked the computer for viruses and malware. Computer does work on USB mouse fine. I've also checked the Bios settings and these are both set to "Automatically" and I've tried toggling this setting off and on - no joy. Any suggested further checks as to getting these both working again, would be most appreciated. Windows XP SP 3. - Lewis

Not likely, but both plug into the motherboard.
