Used x200 for $500 - good deal?

#1 Post by repke95 » Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:44 pm

I bought a semi fast netbook but I miss my trackstick. I'm thinking about buying a used x200 from craigslist. A somewhat implusive buy but it seems to meet my needs. Compact yet still has a full keyboard, faster than an atom based netbook and probably more durable. I've seen x201 at $850 new but would like to stay around $500. Your input would be appreciated.

Ad below, thanks Chris

This is an Lenovo ThinkPad X200 ultra-portable laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz CPU, 4GB memory, 250GB hard drive, 12.1" widescreen LCD, built-in Wi-Fi, BlueTooth, memory card reader, webcam/camera, and other standard features. This laptop is in perfect working condition, and looks very clean. It is one of the thinnest and lightest laptops out there, but it is a powerful laptop, not a cheap netbook. It comes with the original Lenovo AC adapter and an extended capacity battery. This model is still being sold on some web sites, you can google it for the current prices.

While the X201 is nice for most things there's little difference between it and a X200. It seems well specced and in good shape. If it's got warranty, then it seems like a pretty good deal. If not, it's still a good deal, but a little more risky.

Thanks for the feedback - I just bought it and so far it seems like just what I wanted. The hinge seems a little loose - is this something you just replace or can you adjust it? I'll look around a bit and repost if needed.

I picked up my X200 off of Craigslist; traded a desktop I wasn't using and $100 for it and hadn't looked back. It's an awesome machine and suits most of what I use a computer for. It's lightweight and has a small enough footprint that I can carry it just about anywhere. I think you got a pretty good deal for yours.

I don't think the hinges can be adjusted, but they can be replaced if you need to do so. Mine's seen some very hard use but the hinges are still pretty tight. If you have warranty remaining you may be able to send it in and get it fixed.

if it is in perfect cosmetic condition and with warranty then 500 dollars is about the going rate for these laptop. In Australia Lenovo Australia was off loading the brand new X200 for 749 dollars on the final stretch of sale period.

I have an X200 with just about the same specs and that is the amount I would have priced mine if up for sale (Maybe an xtra $50 due to the warranty I have on it). You can always get a warranty on it and it should bring you many years of good use.
