Hard drive in trouble
My A20m's 12G hard drive is breaking down. I need to buy a new HD quickly. How about this one on Ebay?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1
Will this 60GB 5400rpm drive be compatible with A20m? The seller claims it is, but I am afraid that might be some problems.
Thanks for your help!

Not exactly sure if it will work or not someone else will have to answer that.
But if it does here it is cheaper and free shipping.http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=100521

That drive should work fine. I rarely buy new HDs on Ebay because ZipZoomFly is almost always cheaper that on Ebay.

brings up good question
What is the best way to port data to a new drive? Just do a new install? Or is ghosting a good way to go?
Are there better ways.? Without having to buy more hardware?
thanks

Any HD, up to and including the 80GB, will work just fine in your A20 machine as long as you have the latest BIOS installed.
I've probably purchased more than 100 HDs (among other things) from ZipZoomFly (formerly known as GoogleGear) over the past 5 years or so, never had a problem with them that wasn't quickly and painlessly resolved.
You might on occasion find some things slightly cheaper elsewhere, but in the case of HDs you have to beware that you're NOT buying an OEM HD instead of a retail one. OEM HDs carry NO warranty from the manufacturer, regardless of what the seller might tell you.
I unhesitatingly second the referral by Eriqesque and Teresa.

James

SPEAKING OF HD
Hello, to all I want upgrade my hd to a larger size I have 1.5 month old R60 I read the FRU manual for installing different parts of the machine and it says that the screws are nylon based so once the cover for hd is opened you must use a new screw anybody have experience with this?
What is black and blue and blank? Vista after it's been hacked.
Rann,
You should have posted a new topic, you might have clicked the wrong button. Click the "New Topic" button next time.
To answer your question, you may need to replace the screw if you expose your ThinkPad to rugged environments that tend to vibrate or bump the machine constantly. Otherwise, there is no need to replace the screw everytime you remove your hard drive. The nylon coat ensures that the screws remain tight I believe.
