T42P: Tie PowerPlay settings to Power Schemes?

#1 Post by Marc_G » Wed Mar 16, 2005 4:41 pm

Hi folks-

Is there any way to tie the PowerPlay settings to which power scheme is in use? My issue is that ~50% of the time when I'm on battery, I want PowerPlay activated and run at the lower graphics speed for battery conservation, but the other half of the time I need to use an application that relies on OpenGL graphics, and needs full speed on the GPU.

I hate going in and changing the powerplay settings all the time through Display Properties ... Advanced... Powerplay. I'd like it to be very automated.

Any ideas?

You can also change the Powerplay state by clicking on the Battery MaxiMiser percentage icon on your taskbar, there's a Graphics Device Power Management tickbox. That all applies only if you have the B. MaxiMiser software installed.

You can also perhaps find some easier solution in third party applications such as AtiTools, RadLinker. I haven't used them, but as far as I have read, you can create a custom configuration for every applications, so it'll automatically clock your GPU when you run your specific programs.

Omega drivers and ATI Optimized Driver has the feature you wants, it is a low level driver feature, not possible to set by 3rd party utils.

Be careful when using tweaked drivers!

(I have used both, but I think official drivers are still better!)

Thanks guys-

While I don't have exactly what I want, the tip Dvorak gave about the "Graphic Device Power Management" on the Battery Maximizer drop-down menu gets me close enough.

I've got the ATI Tool installed but haven't messed with it yet.

Thanks again.
