drivers for T42 after reformating

#1 Post by Frankie » Thu Dec 09, 2010 7:03 am

Hi everyone,

I need to reformat my Thinkpad T42 laptop. What is the best procedure for properly reinstalling all the drivers? Should I go to lenovo website and just install Thinkvantage? Any tips and recommendations?

Thank you
François

Giday Frank*....
Not sure what/Which OS you are planning to (re)install ,,,,,well in some ways it dont matter...as you have a very relaible T series machine...
Having done a few reformats over my lifetrime(19+yrs of T&Wseries)....
BEFORE FORMAT:
a) Make Backup (via R&R) if desired; note all other Keys etc of other apps... etc
b) Download and create DRIVERS of relevant OS&model from here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -MATRIX#hp
((this is just in case your cannt get to net due to hardware issues etc etc ,,,as FULLset of drivers would fit on any CD!))

AFTER FORMAT:
OS Installation process completed....
a) FIRST INSTALL ALL WINDOWS UPDATES ...before installing any'virus'apps etc
b) install Virus
c) Install Thinkvantage Systems Update:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... VSU-UPDATE
d) Install all Updates from Lenovo
(note - I personally dont install any OTHER THINKVANTAGE items - not even Wireless Conn. Toolbox etc etc ,,, as most of these you can do without and often items in windows work better especially in win7

..hope this helps
Enjoy!

Thank you Ausmike,

I will install XP prof. What does R&R mean in "make backups via R&R"?
