I noticed something curious today: the Wireless WAN status indicator that came in my new X201 (which I didn't buy with wireless WAN) is always lighted up. This is with Win 7 Pro 32 bits.
I am referring to the "triangle pointing downwards" status LED, at the bottom of the LCD panel. The technical manual calls this the "Wireless WAN status indicator". My machine has no Wireless WAN. I notice the indicator turns on even before the operating system is loaded. Interestingly enough, this indicator does not turn off even when flipping the Hardware Switch for wireless.
Anyone else seeing the same? what could be the purpose of this indicator in a machine with no 3G? Can this LED be turned off?
Note that wireless WAN doesn't show up in the device manager nor when hitting Fn-F5.

Re: X201 with no wireless WAN - W-WAN status indicator always on
hi ari*
man you got some issues[ with FP reader and WAN ,,,,
> upgrade to latest BIOS..... and
- setup for FP reader to be 'BOP' .... etc (check bios settings)
- Fn+F5 = than check status , and change 'auto-start' feture via 'mscofig' etc...
FP reader, even if left on = min power usage & once laptop is OFF = min power(cant remember actual Amps - but only thing that uses power = 'system clock' and normal 6 cel bat would last you months and months even if its not plugged into outletpower!
cheers

Re: X201 with no wireless WAN - W-WAN status indicator always on
Thanks for replying. Not sure I understand though. Do you own an X201 with *no* WAN/3G option? and if so do you see the 3G LED indicator (triangle pointing downwards in the bottom part of the LCD) turned on all the time?
I am just wondering if this is normal or not.
Thanks!

Re: X201 with no wireless WAN - W-WAN status indicator always on
FYI.. look in my signat.info below this posting = u see I have a x201 with fullyloaded options and then some!!!
PRESS "FN" key with F5 key at same time and you WILL SEE a submenu apear ......(and you can 'switch-off' things as you wish....... wireless/3G/BT etc,,,,
"triangle" you referring to >depends on YOUR SETUP CHOICES in BIOS & or BOOTUP Options etc. its not NORMAL for ANYTHING TO BE ON (((when laptop is powered off)) - UNLESS you set your BIOS = ALWAYS ON for USB/BT/WAN etc ,,,,,etc
or
could be HARDWARE ISSUE ! - Warranty issue if your laptop is new!
If all else fails , call Lenovo tech Support for more help
(FYI.... I cant help u more; as I dont use LEnovo Gobi wan card; I use a different 3G/4G card and I have a Non-lLenovo BIOS)
Cheers
