Reusing parts from a X60s

#1 Post by Ollo » Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:18 am

Greetings!

My X60s was killed this weekend in an accident  Now I'm gonna get something to replace it, and was thinking of getting another one, so that I can reuse the battery and ultrabase, and perhaps other parts. But perhaps these parts can be used in similar systems, like the x61? Anyone know?

The battery, ultrabase, RAM, and optical drives in the Ultrabase are all the same. I 'think' the keyboards are the same as well. If you need to know that, it can be verified.

Good news then - thanks, Harry! Yes, I am looking at a X61 with an English keyboard that I would like to exchange for the Swedish one I have in the diseased X60s.

Would these parts also work in tablets? I vaguely remember reading about different batteries.

Cheers!

The keyboards are the same -

The batteries and the Ultrabase are different between X6X Tablets and non-tablets.

Many thanks, Harry!

My old X60s died after being thrown (don't ask...) into the floor and ladning on the left corner where the memory-card reader sits. The whole laptop was deformed and bent so mych that the lid would not close. When I pressed the power button, the screen would be all green, then change to blue, then to other colours.

On a whim I decided to bend the chassies back into shape today. I thought perhaps it was only a short circuit that caused the problem (yeah right... as if a motherboard would take that kind of strain and then work when bent back into shape!). Lo and behold - it now works! I'm a very happy camper, and very impressed by the durability of this little laptop. There is still an open gap in the front, but I'll leave it like this like a reminder. Also, I dare not bend it any more.

I'll still get the X61 though, as a back up since I don't know how much time this baby has left.

bending back the laptop into shape, i am impressed. Can you take a picture of the damaged area that you tried to fix?

LOL to be honest I was surprised that your machine was supposedly killed by a single drop in the first place.

Well, it has sustained a couple of drops in the past, but this time it was thrown (not by me, I must add). It still seems to work fine, but the memcard slot is misaligned. I'll se if i can get some pics.
