If you have not given the new installer a go do so! Finally, a nifty installer.
I like the integrated icon in the IE toolbar.

This new installer is very good.
I keep my T41 up-to-date and do the installs very carefully. I knew the wired Intel NIC was older, but the driver I had downloaded not too long ago didn't offer new drivers. I had also downloaded and installed the newest Modem driver (2.1.31c) from last February (2004) and the Chipset driver (V1) from last September (2004).
When I ran this new installer, it said there was a new wired NIC to download and install, so I said go ahead. But then I was surprised that it said, from drivers already on my hard drive, that it needed to upgrade the modem and chipset drivers. I let that happen to, and now Software Installer shows everything up-to-date. I am not clear why the updates I had done (following the documentation) did not "take" properly, but now they are properly up-to-date.

It's still there. See:

I am well enough satisfied with this version that I have uninstalled and dumped Update Connector. There is no future for that application.

just one note
Just one note on errors though.
The installed, offered to upgrade my 802.11a/b/g card driver. Which I let it. I thought for certain, it would be doing the confirmation that I had the AConnections required to use this driver, which I did not.
So, after installing the updated driver, it would not let me use AC to connect again.
as well, in the software installer it would not let me rollback the driver. I didn't not try the XP based, device manager version of roll back driver, but had to install AC 3.7 in order to get it to work again.
So, don't run the drivers for networking at a starbucks or anything, or else you will need to get to an ethernet connection before you can use internet again

I just installed it and it seems a lot faster than previous versions of the Software Installer. I asked it to connect to the web to find some updates and it actually found updates! (unlike the update connector which always got stuck at 66%). Haven't tried any updates yet as my current set of drivers is stable...
