X31 & Win7: all working but...
Hi,
I tried to install Win7 over my X31!
Surprisingly, it works very well (really, i'd like to change the HDD I'm using, an old spare 20GB IBM I had at home: the original has still XP): no unknown hardwares, OSD ok, Sleep/Hibernation no problem, very nice interface for Win7 Lenovo softwares... so, which is the problem?
Well, I cannot dim brightness when using battery! Or better, the system reduces it, but Fn+End shows it is at maximum level, when I set, by TV Power Manager, al lowest level (0)! I searched in the forum, but I cannot find any solutions!
Any ideas?

i have 2 x32's here running windows 7 and i find that if i use tv power manager and access connections that not everything works exactly as it should. without power manager and access connections everything works like it should under windows. the only thinkvantage stuff that i use are hotkeys and system update.
you could try uninstalling the hotkeys and reinstalling them.

I can dim/brighten when my X31 is on battery or power adapter.

Well, Lenovo website says Power Manager and Access Connection don't support X31 under Windows 7, but it looks like they work... at least, Access Connection switches correctly between different profile, but with PM I can set brightness level, but LCD backlight dims only a little! So you think it is better not to use them? What can I use for Access Connection, then?topmahof wrote:i have 2 x32's here running windows 7 and i find that if i use tv power manager and access connections that not everything works exactly as it should. without power manager and access connections everything works like it should under windows. the only thinkvantage stuff that i use are hotkeys and system update.

The system changes automatically the brightness, but not at the level I set! For example, if I have my monitor at 7 and I set battery brightness at 0, when I switch to battery, brightness changes at a lower level, bur OSD (by Fn+End) says it is still at 7, in fact I can still reduce it a lot!ParatoOptimal wrote:I can dim/brighten when my X31 is on battery or power adapter.
Using hotkeys (Fn+Home, Fn+End) there are no problems, but I'd like the automatic change!

There should be a BIOS setting for that. Change the brightness setting in the BIOS from "Normal" to "High" to prevent a reduced brightness level when on battery.Jabberwock wrote:The system changes automatically the brightness, but not at the level I set! if access connections and power manager works for you, by all means use them. i'm just saying that i use windows power settings and i let windows do my wireless connections for me. that way if something gets goofy on me i know to blame windows and i'm not sitting here trying to figure out if there's some kind of conflict between thinkvantage stuff and windows stuff. there is a setting in the bios for brightness like jabberwock says, try that first.

What I think is there is some Win7 option about brightness that override the Power Manger one... but I cannot modify it! Is it a video driver problems? It is possible, but I don't understand why I can modify the brightness by hotkeys, then!topmahof wrote:if access connections and power manager works for you, by all means use them. i'm just saying that i use windows power settings and i let windows do my wireless connections for me. that way if something gets goofy on me i know to blame windows and i'm not sitting here trying to figure out if there's some kind of conflict between thinkvantage stuff and windows stuff. there is a setting in the bios for brightness like jabberwock says, try that first.
Access Connection works (it is very comfortable to have different configuration for different networks, this is why I'd like to use it or something else: I haven't still checked with 7, but I think it is not possible to set different proxy or security configurations with Windows only), sometimes it crashes during configuration process, but now it isn't a great problem, as it works fine when it has to recognize and setup the connections... the main problem is, now, TV Power Manager: I'd like to be sure there aren't any solutions, so I can decide if the best choice for me is to use 7 or XP (as I said, I used a different HDD to test 7, so the XP one is still unformatted)!
I already checked that option in the BIOS before posting, and it was already on normal!

It needs to be set to "High".Jabberwock wrote:I already checked that option in the BIOS before posting, and it was already on normal!
