How to force firmware update on HTS541616J9AT00 HDD ?

#1 Post by frankiepankie » Fri Dec 17, 2010 2:58 pm

Hi guys,

I ripped an HTS541616J9AT00 out of an Apple TV 1st Generation 160GB.

It works fine, but i would like to upgrade it with the Lenovo fwhd56.iso

The current firmware is SB4AA77H which is a Apple firmware (the drive also has an Apple logo on it).

If i boot the CD with the iso on it, it states that no update is needed.

How can i force it to update to the latest Lenovo firmware, instead of this Apple firmware?

I really would like to upgrade it to another firmware, because it would make the 2010 error disappear, and i also think that the Apple firmware has some things like spindown / standby disabled (the AppleTV doesn't have any standby features, and the drive is constantly running)

I've never seen anyone flash a non-Lenovo/IBM FRU drive with Lenovo/IBM firmware. Which machine is throwing a 2010 error with this drive?

There are some new BIOS's floating around to avoid the 2010 error. I don't know if the BIOS engineer has gotten around to R52's yet, but I recall seeing T43 and X41 BIOS's.

Yes, those NO-2010/Slic BIOSes by TTAV134 work great on R52 with Intel GPU as well.

The bootable ISO will not update this firmware from the menus. To get it to work, exit the tool and then press CTRL-C and get to the prompt and execute the commands below. I got them from following the instructions for the Hitachi 80Gb drive at http://forums.thinkpads.com/~thinkpad/f ... &start=510 and worked like a charm with the 160gb drive.

1) COPY SB2IA79H.BDR SB2OA79H.BDR
2) HFUI1704 OA79H -pm SB2IA79H.BDR /F SRBA79HB.TBL
-> Typed U in the tool -> error
3) HFUI1704 IA79H -pm SB2OA79H.BDR /F SRBA79HB.TBL
-> Typed U in the tool -> PASS
