Hi
My T42 2373 boots and starts fine, but after approx. 5 minutes the screen freezes and some horizontal flicker/tearing starts. Only way out is pressing stop until it turns off. I have not tried to plug in an external monitor, but I assume that the output is the same.
My best idea is, that the cause is heat and that the fan has died (if there is a fan), I think there is. There is absolutely no airflow and no noise.......
Agree ?
Best Regards

T42 2373 freezing after 5 mins
Re: T42 2373 freezing after 5 mins
Run PC-doctor. There is a fan test. Let us know if it fails.

Also, you could remove the keyboard but leave it plugged in and power up. The fan should run for a short while when the machine first boots. If it doesn't spin at all, get a can of compressed air, hold the fan blades still with a pencil, and blow the dust out of the entire fan cavity, blowing towards the exhaust port as well to clean the fins. Use the maintenance manual for keyboard removal.

If the fan spins, but you still have this issue, it is probably a loose GPU. Do a forum search for details.

If you need any further help with this, I am based in UK and run a chip repair service for anyone in Europe. Please have a look at this forum post, and if I can help you please PM me with your email address and I'll send you an "official" quotation.
Re: T42 2373 freezing after 5 mins
It seems that a lot of GPU's tend to loose grip of the MoBo's....
Didn't know them tricks until now, and there is a lot of suggestions too
I have been baking my MoBo for 8 mins at 385F=~200C And up until now, it seems to work out fine.....except for the Wifi, which is able to locate my network, but it just won't get the network address
i had a little miss-hap when removing the wifi board, the AUX connector loosened, but I soldered it back in place, and as far as I know, it has nothing to do whit the actual problem....?
And thx for the links and ideas posted.
