T410 Updated Video Driver From Windows Update

#1 Post by nikki605 » Mon Dec 20, 2010 10:46 am

Typically, I use (trust) lenovo System Update for T410 specific updates. I just ran it and the results showed I was current with all updates. I then ran Windows Update and it showed an "Optional" update called "Lenovo - Display - ThinkPad Display 1440x900." Clicking on the "More Information" or "Support Information" links in Windows Update just brings up a generic MS webpage - no specifics regarding this driver, not even a version number.

Device Manager shows my current video driver to be version 4.33.0.0 dated 10/15/2009 (on Intel HD Graphics).

My question is this: do you guys install (trust) drivers from Windows Update or wait for lenovo System Update to post it? I got burned a long time ago on a different PC when I let Windows Update install a "new" video driver. It didn't work at all and I spent hours reverting back to a manufacturer supplied driver.

It's not a video driver, it's a monitor .inf installer for your Thinkpad LCD. It is safe to install, but is not needed if you are running a build from the preinstall environment. .
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62923

This package installs the software (monitor information file) which defines
the following items for ThinkPad LCD.

- Monitor INF (Information file for the maximum resolution and monitor naming)

- Windows ICM (Image Color Management file for ICC Color Profile)
You can obtain an accurate color representation with the Windows ICM file.

If you use the preload environment, you do not need this package.

OK, so not an actual "video driver" - my bad. The information at the lenovo link you posted does show a later version (4.34) than I have installed (4.33), but the difference shows nothing important for the T410, it adds support for other, newer models.

Guess I can skip it. Will it eventually show up on System Update?

Thanks for the info, Harry! :thumbs-UP:

I don't recall ever seeing an LCD/Monitor .inf file showing up on Thinkvantage System Update, so I am going to say no, you won't see it there.

No big deal, just wondering. It's not the type of update I've ever really watched for or noticed.

Thanks again and Happy Holidays!
