T410 Trackpoint Caps
T410 Trackpoint Caps
I just received my T410 today and, much to my dismay, there were no trackpoint caps! Was I just overlooked?!
I know that seems like a silly thing to make a topic about, but I do have another question. Were the others not included because they could damage the screen? I know the soft rim cap (the one I prefer to use) used to leave an impression on the screen of my T500 but it never actually did any real damage. Has anybody noticed any problems with the soft rim cap on the T410? I'm sure I have some around here somewhere that I could use if it won't cause any gigantic cracks in the screen or anything.
Thanks!
edit: durp I meant trackpoint, not trackpad.

Re: T410 Trackpoint Caps
I only received one cap with my T410.
T41 and T410

Not included because they could damage the screen? You know, I seriously seriously doubt it. Cost cutting sounds more like it (why give something for free when it can be offered as an "option" for extra money).harold wrote:Were the others not included because they could damage the screen? All caps will leave a mark if the laptop is squezzed enough. The soft rim just leaves one that is more pronounced (a perfect circle instead of a blurry spot). But gigantic cracks in the screen? Puh-lease.

Re: T410 Trackpoint Caps
True, it does sound unlikely! I'm just recalling that thread about the mysterious cracked screen(s) that happened to match up with the trackpoint. At least I'm 70% sure I'm not making that up... These things make me paranoid!
I feel much better now, though. And illogically sad about not getting the other caps. It's like not getting those little tables on a pizza... or losing a sock in the dryer...

Re: T410 Trackpoint Caps
Well, for some it's not too "illogically". I found the one with a round (not flat) head to be most usable, and it doesn't come by default with thinkpads now...harold wrote:I feel much better now, though. No...no more caps included!!!
In the old "what is included" sheet, you could see the "caps" as part of the package deal...no more!
I too was shocked when I received the T410s (touch) $2,500 machine and no caps! I quickly looked at the detailed fold out with the included items and (again) nothing there...I guess they save $1 per machine...in another 18 years and 60 million laptops...this can amount to some serious cash
