he could of just went of his house and help the lady out... instead of posting this video to make fun of lady drivers and calling it epic fail...

Nick, That video is a gem from all sorts of social angles. It could be the start of another book for some social scientist.

No offense intended, but from what I've read, a "social scientist" is usually an idiot with nothing better to do.

No, that would make too much sense. It would be nice. He couldn't do something nice. He's practicing to become a social scientist.

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
Comment deleted, I'm not getting involved in this.
Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
BTW, I didn't mean to imply that *all* social scientists are idiots. Just the majority of those who get any attention.
Why don't people help people? Why choose to be cruel and make fun of them instead?
Ok, I know, I should be offering to help the social scientist. But how?

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
This video should have had a different title: "Epic Fail: Guy films video instead of going outside to help and prevent a lady from crashing into his house"
Well, apparently it doesn't come natural to all of us. Other people is just "something" out there, and has nothing to do with us. I am probably too much old school and raised at a small place where everybody knew the guy across the street and would run out to help him/her. Uhm, now I sound like a social scientist here, better stop and go back to celebrate christmas with MY family.

Remember, it's only funny until somebody gets hurt ... and then it's hilarious.
Of course, the Germans invented a word for this: Schadenfreude. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude
In defense of the videographer, it would have taken him/her longer to bundle up to go outside and help than it took the errant driver to get into trouble. It's also frequently the case that the good Samaritan could get injured or killed in such treacherous conditions. No good deed goes unpunished!

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
I can see the biggest mistake she made was to have her wheels turned - in snow, a rear-wheel drive car will potentially spin out if the wheels are turned, or just go straight anyway since there is no traction. In a front wheel drive car, the wheels are pushing at an angle to the rear wheels and will just spin if there is anything behind them. also, if her wheels were straight, she would have gone down the road instead of into the building.
I love driving in the snow, since there is the possiblity to do some things that you cannot do on dry pavement (or can, but it is hard on your tires, drivetrain and engine) that are really easy in the snow. Find an empty parking lot and you are good to go, donughts, spins, drifts... All fun, and it prepares you for the real situations when you are sliding across a road into a ditch, and how to prevent that from happening (and finally how to get yourself out of the ditch - step 1: straighten your wheels, step 2: stop someone with a truck and a chain, Step 3 (preventative): Give mom a break from driving, I can drive the rest of the trip

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
I'm not sure what it says about me, but when I first posted this it never occurred to me the these young people were filming the lady rather than helping to get her car out of the street.
Then - coincidently - because she is so stressed she leaves the car in gear, this turns out to be the whole "hilarious" point of the vid.
Since others with more sense than me have made some very insightful points, I've thought a lot about this and the the larger life picture of what our modern world has turned into.
It wasn't so long ago that people would consider others - I remember standing at the curb with my school cap removed as a mark of respect when a funeral cortege drove by, and people seemed to generally respect each other a lot more.
This contrasts with a BBC fly on the wall documentary series "The World's Strictest Parents" where young "out of control" people are sent off to live with "strict" parents abroad in the hope that they will mend their ways.
A couple of phrases from some of these youngsters struck me as summing up our world today - "I was born to party" and "I won't do what anyone tells me, even if the Queen was to ask"
However to balance this, there are young (and not so young) people who are amazing, but it does seem the selfish to selfless divide is much wider now than it used to be.
Is this what happens to certain people when everything is handed to them on a plate?

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
I would say it's good that you posted it. Society has changed, and it becomes less and less common that someone goes out to help someone in trouble. So it can be good to watch this kind of stuff, just to make us aware how things are, and that this is probably not how it should be.
I don't think anyone sees it as a reflection of you. The driving act performed by the lady is to some extent entertaining. It wasn't until I noticed the guy talking that I found it odd and sad that they just sat there and talked and made fun of it instead of helping her out and preventing her from crashing. And later posts it on YouTube to make fun of it in full public. I actually think the fact that she crashes into *his own* house is the best part here.

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
the fellow doing the video could have called out to the young lady and let her know he would come down to help her..
but i suppose he belongs to the entitled generation and was waiting for the government to do something..!

I'm not entirely convinced that we can determine his political orientation based on this incident.

Re: If your car gets stuck in the snow....
ok, fair point..
so lets take another look..
and yes, i guess this might be called "profiling".. ohhh, bad word..
so lets just use Res ipsa loquitur (latin for it obvious on its face)..
which i learned while researching a civil case i had against a fellow who would be fairly described as a "courtley rogue" or a "snake oil salesman" much like some current political leaders..
1. brit girl having problems in the snow..
2. brit young men (must be either pre-pubescent or just plain numb) videoing..
3. mocking rather than helping..
4. now, we all know that england is slowly trying to dig themselves out from under the current nanny state.. social democracy, it sure is wonderful..
5. also recent news has shown riots of students over tuition raises..
ohhh, daddy nanny state is finally running out of the other guys money and now we must actually PAY for schooling..
sooo, my GUESS is these fellows are a small group of wankers more interested in "social media" than real interaction with what sure looks like a very pretty young lady in distress..
no one, not I or you, can be sure but the evidence sure looks like i might be more correct in my cynical remark..

For too long the UK has been buried under tons of political detritus that has drowned any initiative such "posh accent" morons may have once possessed.BillMorrow wrote::

The frightening thing is that it's the likes of these kids that are tomorrow's society, and you can imagine them "filming" the country as it comes to a crashing halt, and then wondering why the rest of us are "crying" because there was no one there with the qualifications or courage to step out from the crowd and help.
You think the US has problems with their youth but it's nothing compared with the UK. - I'd love to link this post to the YouTube vid...
