#1 Post by sokerjunky » Thu Dec 23, 2010 9:49 am

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone could help me find a driver for my wireless card i looked in intel and found nothing looked all over google and nothing. I have an intell wireless card 802.11 b/g. The card number is a intel N14608.
I have it running on an ibm thinkpad t42. I went on too lenovo to download the drives from there but they did not work so i thought id go intel but i couldnt find it there.

Thanks,

Mauro

Mauro, I had similar problems recently and logged it all under General Questions. See here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=92356

Let us know if it solves the problem. :)

The drivers from Lenovo should work. If it is a T42 using an Intel card for the bg channels, I suspect it is the Intel 2200bg. There should be an IBM FRU number on the card somewhere to better identify it. If it is a non-IBM/Lenovo card, that would likely give you an 1802 error on boot up.

Follow the installation instructions in the appropriate link below to install (depending upon your version of Windows). If you have Access Connections installed, uninstall that before installing the Intel drivers. You can add Access Connections later if you want to.

There is a chance the T42 could have one of the newer cards (I kind of doubt it though).

There is a third option. Use Windows Update to find the appropriate driver. You will need an ethernet (wired LAN) or other internet connection (such as cellular) for this to work though.

You could also boot your laptop from a Ubuntu LiveCD and type "lspci" in the Terminal.

It will give you an overview of the devices that are installed in your system.

I once found out that a miniPCI wireless card without any brand or modelnumber was based on Atheros AR5212 chipset. I went to Atheros, downloaded the drivers and *POOF* it was working :)

You make a good point there, frankiepankie. :)

During my problems with drivers on the R50e I used a Ubuntu disk to see whatwould happen. The wireless driver was recognised straight away. This led me to believe that something within Windows or Lenovo's software was causing the block. Uninstalling Client Security Software did the trick.

Had I not been selling the R50e then I'd have installed Ubuntu and said farewell to Windows. The R50e has now been sold and the purchaser is really happy with it. That's the end of the story for me, but the Intel 802.11bg driver seems to have a conflict with Lenovo software.
