I see these lenovo cards cheap on the internet, and I would like to have one in my t60p so I could get rid of some usb wires.
I have been waiting for 3 years for this WUSB thing to be available, and now I am finally finding the hardware available to buy. Why it took so long, I don't know. I read about this "great technology" years ago, but would never find anything more than manufacturers advertising their products, but no dealers selling them.
Now I read on the think wiki that the card has to be branded IBM or Lenovo, because the Reich Chancellory inside the computer (the bios or the cpu, I don't know which) has seen fit to discriminate. In this rare case, the genuine parts are available for 1/10 to 1/2 the cost of 3rd party parts, so I can't be upset about the discrimination. [I guess we should be happy we are still allowed to breathe without state intervention, regulation, and taxation.]
The newer card FRU PN: 43Y6501 (US), which is used in x200, and t400, is available for new $10.00, which is incredible. The older one FRU PN: 42T0885 (US for T61p) , which was available in the T61 supposedly, is available for $50.00, which is still probably less than 1/2 the cost of a clumsy external wusb adapter that plugs into the usb port and sticks out 5 inches... (I imagine that these are so cheap because there is very little demand, because most people don't know what wusb is, because the corporate dictatorship hasn't pushed it on us yet. But when they push it with their madison avenue advertising, the cost will go way up. So buy them now.)
So is there any way to make either of these/both of these to work? Someday I will put a T61 Motherboard (and qxga)in my t60p, when the T60 no longer cuts the mustard. I assume then the t61 wusb card would work for sure. But until that day, I would like to try to make the wusb work with the t60 motherboard. Specs are at bottom.
OFF TOPIC> Incidentally,
I am having a love affair with my T60p that I just got a few weeks ago. This T60p with uxga flexview and xp works so much better than my X301 and X200t, that I decided to get the fastest SSD available for it, the Ocz vertex 2. Now it is insanely fast, even with "only" 2GB ram. And idles at 600 to 700MB ram. Now it starts up in about 20 seconds. (My win7 x200t took about a minute to start, and 1500MB ram to do nothing)
It works better than everything else i have ever had, even when spending $4,000.
Specs:
IBM T60P 15" (4x3 screen shape, so I can actually see from the top of the page to the bottom without scrolling)
2007-93u
T2500(2GHz), 3GB RAM, 60GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, 15in 1600x1200 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5200, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, WWAN, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

You can get a (Zender) modified BIOS that will let you use any old wifi card, that physically fits (i.e. MiniPCIe in a T6x).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
