Windows professional vs. "ultimate"

#1 Post by Daniel Davis » Sat Dec 25, 2010 1:07 pm

I was about to purchase a 510 via Lenovo when I noted you could add Windows "ultimate" for $70 extra. What would "ultimate" do for me that "professional" wouldn't?

Wow: Microsoft charges just $20 more for Ultimate? I paid Lenovo an extra $70 to order Ultimate 64 on my wife's X201. And yes, that's $70 more than Professional 64.

It would take approximately five years off Microsoft's support. Ultimate is a consumer product, it will be supported until Jan. 13th, 2015. Windows 7 Professional is a business product and will be supported until Jan. 14th, 2020.
