T42 inverter

#1 Post by mg88 » Sun Dec 26, 2010 4:10 pm

Hi! My mom owns a T42, type 2374 - R95, and a week or so ago the backlight of the display stopped working. I searched online and came to the conclusion that the problem lies with the inverter.

MY question to you Thinkpad experts is: How can I be sure I order the right replacement? I live in ColOmbia, Thinkpads here are not that common, so I am ordering from Amazon, but I want to be sure I have the exact inverter the laptop needs, cause of the shipping costs and the whole shebang.

So, any tips on ordering (I have also never bought something from Amazon in the US) and if possible anything useful for the installation would be great!

Muchas gracias,
Javier.

Welcome to the forum.
Was the LCD pinkish/reddish at startup, before the backlight went out?
If so, you need to replace the backlight (CCFL) itself, and not the inverter.
If that is too complicated, you may need to get a complete LCD.

Inverters rarely fail.
Try opening the LCD (remove the LCD-bezel) and check for proper inverter and cable connections.
Also run PC Doctor first to test everything.

Have you tried if an external monitor works?

It's also possible that the Graphics chip (GPU) is becoming "unstuck".
