X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
I have a X200 with fingerprint and i wanted to use X201 palmrest with touchpad. is this possible?
Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
No. There's no touchpad connector on the motherboard.

Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
I feel terrible bumping such an old thread, but this idea just occurred to me and I don't want to make another thread about it.
Looking at pictures of the X201 palmrest, it looks like the cable that connects the fingerprint scanner from the X200 is the same cable by which the trackpad attaches - often I've found these cables to simply be running a few USB connections. It looks like the same plug, in the same spot, to me, and I would be unsurprised if it worked perfectly.
If I find an X201 palmrest with a trackpad that isn't too expensive, I'll install it on my X200 and come back with results (unless someone wants to trade for an X200 non-trackpad palmrest for the sake of science!)

Going by the same logic, is it possible if I wanted to swap out the palm rest of the X201 with a non-touchpad one of the X200?
I really love those nipples and hate the touchpad.
Is that possible?

I should think so.

Just putting a touchpad-less palmrest on an X201, or vice versa as well?

I'd like to know that too.. does X201 palmrest fit X200? /regardless whether the touchpad works or not/Bibin wrote:Just putting a touchpad-less palmrest on an X201, or vice versa as well?

Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
I'm curious, why would you want to put a X201 palm rest on a X200? I would think if it works one way, it'd go the other, but I've not done it myself. I wish they'd offer a trackpadless palm rest for the X220.

Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
I'd like to swap my current palmrest (withou FP reader) which shows sings of wear with a cheapest option with FP reader. I found some X201 palmrests on ebay, which are quite cheap. I'm just curious whether it would work

I'd like to use x201's palmrest with fingerprint reader on my x200s,,is that possible,,i think UPEK's fingerprint managemant software is better than Authentec's one,,,
Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
I think the FP reader is an USB device so the internal connectors should be compatible.

Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
Hi everyone, the problem is solved
According my research, the palmrest devices' (FP, FP+Touchpad) connector is different. 10pin vs. 18pin, I'd say it's also very slightly shifted on the motherboard.
Since there is no much change in appearance, now remove the keyboard to see the structure inside. Removed the keyboard and palm rest of ThinkPad X201s and ThinkPad X200s, the internal structure of them are similar, and screws positions are identical. Does this mean that we can upgrade ThinkPad X200s with the motherboard of ThinkPad X201s? No, because the palmrest interfaces connecting to the motherboard has changed. In fact, Lenovo ThinkPad X201s adds a touchpad, so interconnecting link is changed from 10-pin to 18-pin, the interface is undoubtedly be changed, so if you want to save the costs, you must replace the motherboard and the palm rest at the same time.

Re: X200 palmrest with FP to X201 with FP/Touchpad possible?
it will likely work in windows but not with SSO or swipe at POST.cosmos wrote:I'd like to use x201's palmrest with fingerprint reader on my x200s,,is that possible,,i think UPEK's fingerprint managemant software is better than Authentec's one,,,
i did the same swap on an X301 using an X300's UPEK palmrest and could only make it work in windows.
as has been said, the X201's touchpad is in no way compatible with an X200 so you'll need to use a palmrest without a touchpad.
