Need help with a 2373 T42 (networking issue)

#1 Post by Trance750 » Tue Dec 28, 2010 8:48 pm

I got a 2cd hand Thinkpad 2373 T42 for Christmas and have been going thru hell trying to find a driver for the network. Can anybody please tell me where I may be able to download it, because according to IBM, this is a model they no longer support.

I've downloaded the driver from Lenovo, but it still does not allow me to connect. It won't even register the IP

When you D/L the driver, you doubleclick on the downloaded file.
All that does is unpack itself into a subdirectory of c:\drivers\....
Don't know exactly.
Redo the doubleclick and write down whereto it unpacks.
You then need to go there and run the program setup.exe to install the drivers.
Then it should work.

I've done that and it still doesn't seem to work.

Have you checked in Device Manager that you have indeed a wifi card in your machine?
You can also check for physical presence by removing the keyboard.
You should see 2 antenna wires going under the palmrest, where you could just about see the edge of the wifi card.
If you have no wifi card at all, you can install all the drivers you want, it'll never work!
Or maybe the wifi card is loose/defective.

Related to the previous post, are you trying to connect to a wired network or a wireless network? What is the total model number of your T42 (2373-XXX) this should tell you which wireless card/ethernet card is installed. The T42s generally had the intel 2200BG wireless card.
