W510 disk caddy part number??

#1 Post by gfinney » Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:10 pm

I bought a W510 with 300GB disk, and separately purchased an Intel SSD 160GB disk. I swapped in the SSD as the boot drive and put the SATA drive in the Ultrabay Drive Adapater as a second drive. I removed the disk caddy (metal tray and rubber boots) from the SATA drive to put it on the SSD, so the SATA drive does not have the caddy attached. Can this present a problem? Does anyone know the part number for the caddy? I'm trying to find one for the W510, but have only found for other laptop models. Can't find at all on the Lenovo site.

When my laptop comes out of sleep mode, i always get an error message: "Problem ejecting Hitachi..." and "This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that might be using the device, and then try again." Could this be related to the lack of a caddy?

Thanks, Graham.

Graham,

The Ultrabay adapter does not require a caddy.

I don't have any idea of the Hitachi issue.

I am having essentially the same problem. My main laptop drive is SSD, and a good portion of my system in on the 2d drive, in the bay.

I close the case, open it, and find this message (dialog box title "Problem Ejecting TOSHIBA MK5061GSY", dialog box contents "This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows tht might be using the device, then try again.")

Haha. Program Files, My documents, and many other useful directories are on this drive. I have not tried to eject it in any way...

Has anyone ever figured this out?

Thanks

Is your swap file on the ultrabay drive? That would cause your symptoms.
