Recently bought R61 refurbed. model 77331CU.
I have these questions.
What are the steps I need to take to see to have a SSD run at Sata2 speeds?
Does the ultrabay support Sata 2 device.?
I would want to use a 500GB sata 2 drive in the ultrabay. Could someone help me find where they sell the adapters.
Thanks!
Need to update R61

Re: Need to update R61
The chipset of your R61 is limited to SATA-1 speed.
Same goes for the Ultrabay.
You can use SATA-2 drives, but they will only run at SATA-1 speed.

However, if you are adventurous, you can do a BIOS upgrade to remove the SATA-1 cap.

Re: Need to update R61
The biggest speed increase on an SSD is not in a transfer of large files (assuming your traditional disk is reasonably defragmented). You will see the biggest improvement when reading lots of little files, where the seek time and latency time are the limiting factors. When you have platters moving, everytime you seek, there is the time to move the heads to the correct cylinder (seek time) plus the time it takes to spin the platters to the right sector (latency time). The latency time is about half the time it takes for the platters to turn one revolution. This means that a 5400 RPM drive takes 1/5400 of a minute (about .09 seconds) to rotate. The latency time is about half of that. On an SSD, there is no overhead related to physical movement. On bigger files, the latency time becomes more complicated, because if the disk is laid out in the best way, usually, the disk should not need to rotate to get to the next sector, but that depends on the interleave factor.
