See the "Before you Buy" FAQ in my sig. check tabook and discounts.
It is my experience that the T43 and T42 prices are roughly equivalent.
T43 gives you a more advanced wireless mini-PCI, Expresscard Slot, and a little more (see FAQ) and possibly higher resale value.

There is no one right choice. T42 vs T43 really depends on what is important to you.
T43 Advantages:
PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet (the T42 has PCI based Ethernet.
(no benchies yet but broadcom flyer claimes "wire speed" gig networking, believe it when I see it).
ExpressCard/54
Replacement to PCCARDS/PCMCIA. Based on a 250mB/s PCIe iinterface it is twice as fast as the PCI based PCMCIA. Problem: So cutting edge you can't get cards for it yet. Benifit: Iti is a shorter card than the PCCARD. Maybe cards won't stick out.
Faster/Dual Channel memory: Not a big help on the Pentium M. Toms is showing 5% speed increase.
Which is all fine and dandy. But the average user does not use gig ethernet, and if they do are happy with the PCI based chipsets. Expresscard/54 is swell but by the time it becomes "the standard" you will probably be upgrading your notebook.
So overall. What the previous posters said. Get the T42 (unless you need faster networking, interface cards and memory.)

So I read the FAQ and looked at the TABOOK
This is what I found and you guys can help me decide which one is a better machine.

The 71U sounds ideal, its a T43 with all the things I need and I saw it for EPP price of 1650. Now will the T42's be cheaper? Better bang for the buck and I think the 9600 Video Card will hold up with longhorn. Im just your avg user. No CAD or anything. just surfing, web design, music, burning cds, photoshop...
Your thoughts guys?

You'll have the check the EPP discounts for the units yourselfarun wrote: Now will the T42's be cheaper?
The M3U has a 7200 RPM hard drive. I personally chose a 80GB HD over the somewhat faster 7200 hard drive.
I'd go with the unit you suggested. You can't go wrong for this great deal for $1650.

David, the 74u has the ibm card but is not centrino....other than that, it's identical to 71u....davidlg16 wrote:y not the 74u? everything the same as 266871u but 74u has ibm wifi instead of intel.
what do you think about centrino certified or not....what about we upgrade the card ourself from intel to ibm...wouldn't it be cheaper?

I'm asking myself too
To day it's more interesting a T42
I'm waiting for the T ?? with the Yonah Q1 2006
Arun,
I am using the T43 2668-72U now. It is the same as the 71U except I have the new Mutiburner plus drive. I spent a lot of time comparing machines and with EPP pricing the T42 and T43 were virtually the same in price for similar configurations. I think in the long run you will be much happier with the T43 even if it is a few dollars more. Someone posted that you should order the unit with the Atheos wireless chip. I honestly don't see the benefit of that chip especially when it would have pushed delivery out 3 - 4 weeks. I received my T43 six days after ordering it. I am using Win Xp so the wireless results may be different under other operating systems but with XP it works perfectly. So far I have tested it by connecting to my wireless G router. I have printed, faxed, and scanned to a wireless B All In One device. I have set up a dial up netwrking connection using my cell phone and bluetooth. Performed GPS navigation using bluetooth. Syncronized with my smart phone using activesync. I am still testing now but so far everything is working.

T43 uses a liitle bit higher capacity battery.
And maybe, maybe, T43 has a better build quality ( such as the FAN and DVD gap ).

Yah.. I have been comparing too. I just wanna get the best I can afford and that will do a good job. I don't want to be outdated buy a new version as soon I get it.
I think im just gonna get the 71U or EU4 ... only difference is 2.00GHZ vs. 1.86 GHZ..
also how do you know if it has the Atheros chip?

both of these models have intel 2200bg chip, the 74u has atheros chip..71u and 74u are the same price so get the 7u4 if you like atheros chip
since the chip is only 50 bucks...why don't you buy the 4eu and buy the card and swap them out...it cheaper.
