Windows 7 Aero Snap Feature - how to disable this?

#1 Post by aramosjr » Thu Dec 30, 2010 1:16 pm

We have Thinkpads in our environment and I cannot seem to disable the Windows 7 Aero snap feature. I went into control panel, Ease of Access Center and made the change, but this does not seem to disable the aero snap feature. Any ideas?

I'd never heard of Aero Snap so I looked it up. On the Windows website it says, "Please keep in mind, that this software is still in beta process. It's stable enough to use, but it's possible that you'll get some errors."

Having read that my only advice is to be patient until it is officially released.

There's a way to turn off Aero, but I don't remember how to do it. Google search would probably get you there...

I bought a W700 earlier this year w/Win7 Pro 64 bit, and set it up to look as much like WinXP as possible. Aero was one of the(many) things I had to adjust. Fiddled around a lot, turned things off, etc. until I got what I wanted.

I don't remember having to edit the registry to turn off Aero, altho I could be not remembering doing so. I usually try other means than the registry to mess with stuff...I think I just picked the Win Classic theme in the 'Personalize' section for my desktop theme. Keep looking...

aramosjr has already indicated that the Ease of Access control options are not working for him.

This is just a guess....

Control Panel>>System>>Advanced System Settings>>Advanced>>Performance>>Visual Effects

might do the trick. I haven't messed around with the settings but if unticking one of the boxes works- please share.

you can get to the same place in performance information and tools, adjust visual effects.

if you click adjust for best performance it unchecks everything. that turns aero off.
if you click for best appearance, that checks everything and turns aero on.
you can unclick things one at a time but they will only stay unchecked if you click on custom. i would say that would be the way to go if you still would like to keep some of the aero stuff.
