Really? Sorry, I thought that was a Paris exchange number I had given Yves.

Doesn't matter where it is though, it's still the phone number for IBM France support.

I also unchecked it and installed the next driver in line and I got the same deal.

What gives?
I had the same problem updating my T40p. Most drivers installed fine, but Presentation Director, Power Management Driver, and Battery MaxiMizer just hung (had to uncheck them to get to the other drivers). I don't have SP2 (and can't install it because of some legacy apps I am running). Anyone else?

It look like a lot of people are having this problem as well.
My A31p is also getting the same "Invalid machine type error"

The thing is that when I go to IBM website to auto look up my system info it looks up just fine.

Quite odd what is happening...

I did not notice any problem on my T40p, however I have SP2 installed.
What I did notice was the Power management drivers. They did not work properly (or maybe with the installed version of the Omega drivers). Re-installed them by hand, and everything si fine.

The new Power management is excellent. The fan is off!! Even with using WLAN. I never had that before.
So, it took IBM almost 2.5 years to fix that fan problem. :-)

Hi All,

I ran the "Software Installer", and I found in the retrieved list under "Available Versions" the latest versions of the drivers and updates, and under "Installed Versions", I found a "<--" symbol for most of the packages. What does this mark mean? Does it mean that I do have the version indicated in the available version list? Please advice.

Strangely, for the "Software Installer", I found version 2.32.0492 in "Available Versions", and 3.01.0503 in "Installed Version". Surely, the available version should also have been 3.01.0503. Right?

Also, the Installer shows the the following programs as "Not Installed",

1. "Intel Chipset Support II for Windows 98SE/2000/XP" (Mandatory Importance), and
2. "Intel(R) PROSet" (Recommended).

What are these, and is it absolutely necessary to install them?

By the way, how can I tell if "Scroll Lock Indicator Utility" is installed or not installed in my system?

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

I also had a "invalid machine type" on my t41p refurbished (xqx). I downloaded and ran the bios update utility http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.ws ... MIGR-50273 and used that to change my machine type to GEU.

After doing that, the IBM software update program works!

Hope that helps, G'luck!

I realize I may be a bit late with this, but after getting the updates, my a/b/g wireless card can no longer "see" any access points.

Any ideas?

Kim,

That was going to be the next thing I suggested, change it to a 2653-RTU.

The above program does not support A31p.
It is for T and R series.

Is there one for A31p?

I have the same BIOS as yves

I have a T41 2379 DJU and this ThinkPad Software Installer fails. It comes up with "Invalid Machine Type" error every time. I've even installed it with no resident programs running and firewall turned off. Can anyone help? IBM had no solution.

Is there any other information needed to resolve this issue? I just went through the process of updating BIOS to the current version 3.14 1RETD1WW. It still doesn't work. Windows is current. There is no spyware, trojans or viruses on the system. Redownloading the software and running it with no resident programs concurrently running still produces the same error: Invalid Machine Type.

John,

If you use the lookup feature at the IBM website to ID your machine, does it ID it correctly?

Go here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us and click on "Detect my system" (Only works in IE!)

What does the Configuration Utility report for your machine type?

Why it works on so many other systems and not your's is a puzzle.

I am puzzled as well. I installed this new version on a client T30 that had a new system board. It failed with the message you get. The vendor created a UUID and replaced the System model/serial number and Software Installer worked properly straightaway. I did not reinstall it or anything. ... JD Hurst

What did you use to change the serial number?

As an aside, was the system board ever changed on this machine?

He used a maint disk i sent him to change (I hope) the model number.

Yes, I believe the MB had been replaced in the past, although I could be mixing Yves' machine with another.
