T43 with Flexview and ATI graphis now on IBM web site

#1 Post by trikster2 » Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:52 am

Finally

IBM has a 15" Flexview T43 listed on their web site

2668C3U
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 2MHz (Actually says 2Mhz on the web site. TYPO bug good for a chuckle)
15.0"
1400x1050
64MB ATI Mobility RADEON x300
512 MB
60 GB
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo

$2,700 (EPP $1786)

It's not a "think express model) hense the high price and big EPP discount.

Comparing this model to say the DXU for $1424 (EPP) for $360 you get a 300mhz faster CPU, you loose the blue card but get PCIe Gig E and Expresscard 54. While I would agree these are worth the extra $360 on the EPP site, I would have a hard time convincing myelf they are worth the nearly $800 difference in "list" prices.....

X300 and 9600 graphics are about the same? Or have their been any benchmarks showing a performance difference?

Sorry, I completely disagree with you. Most people will not notice a 10-15% increase in CPU speed or will notice any difference in performance between a T42 or T43. The one exception would possibly be the 25-30% graphics performance increase in the T43p models which uses a GPU based on the X600. The X300 is roughly the same performance as the 9600.

Check the tabook in the FAQ in my signature for all models that fit your needs and price them out using discount links in the FAQ. You may find a better deal. Don't rely on the web site for listing models.

BTW most people on this forum prefer the SXGA+ in a 14" format than the 15" format. It is feels much lighter and more portable and you'll get longer battery life.

I also have a 15" UXGA Flexview display on my A31p and frankly I don't miss it one bit.

Also, I'm not trying to be harsh. I just want to save you money. :)

You can upgrade the DXU or any other unit for on-site.

Frankly, I (and I think most users of this forum) elected for EZServe which, while not on-site, has fast service. They overnight a box and at least in my case had the unit back to me within a couple of days.

Three year warranty is highly recommended.

Wow. Did not catch that.

Someone at IBM must have caught it though. The 2668C3U was pulled from both the public and EPP page soon after posting.

It is now on my university's EDU site:
Your price: $2,336.65
Web price: $2,749.00

Screens are personal preference. I lug around a Dell lattituded D800 with a WUXGA screen. I want something lower res but not horrible, the SXGA 15" sceen sounds perfect. 15 vs 14 is personal preference also. I'm interested in the greater viewing angles and brighter screen on the Flexview 15". Though "large" by thinkpad standards it will be lighter and less bulky then the beast I am carrying around right now.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I like the config above.

Can you order EDU models through EPP and get the EPP discount?

I'm eligible for an EDU discount and I am eligible for an EPP discount. The above config is $2,300 using my schools EDU discount but when it was listed on the EPP web page (must have been an error it was pulled quickly) it was $1700 something.
