Anyone With Experience Jailbreaking iPod Touch/iPhone

#1 Post by hunterman223 » Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:27 am

I just ordered a new 4th Generation iPod Touch, and am already looking to jailbreak it. 8) I have a few basic questions first.

1. What are the Pros/Cons? Should I even bother?
2. Do Regular App Store apps still work?
3. Which method of jailbreaking is best? (redsn0w, limerain, etc.)
4. Does this have any negative effects on the iPod, like reduced battery life, instability, incompatibility, etc.

Feel free to post any opinions on jailbreaking or the iPod in general.

new ipod shud be about the frontfacing cam aka facetime. for the latest fw 4.2.1 theres no confirm working jailbreak yet. theres no diff within non jb and a jb phone. u still can install sw from appstore. about stability. it depends. if u install too many mods on ur ipod. some sw might be clash each other that affecting stability.

Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere that redsn0w 0.9.7b5 is in the works and should be released for windows. There is 0.9.7b4 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1, but it's mac only and not completely stable.

You may want to review TiPb or the Daily iPhone Blog

There's a version of RedSn0w that works with 4.2.1 available now, but it's tethered, which means you have to re-Jailbreak it if you turn the device off. The Jailbreak extends your functionality by adding applications that Apple doesn't necessarily approve. Just make sure you restore it to normal if you need to take it to Apple for warranty work

Okay, thank you. I just found that version and jailbroke my iPod, and it works great. It will be even better when they release the untethered windows version.
