Magnifying App reduces Screen res. / Trackpad precision

When I press Fn+Space the screen goes to 800x600.
Can this be modified so that the screen magnification will open?
It is a small windows program, basically a magnification glass.

2)
At which setting the trackpoint has its best precision?
How long will it take for a newbie to use the TP as precisely as the mouse or the Touchpad?
