POST diagnostic board - experiences

#1 Post by Norway Pad » Mon Jan 03, 2011 6:50 pm

Does anyone here have any experiences with these boards, and some recommendations for which one to buy?

As I am starting to do computer repairs on a more professional basis, I have looked into getting one of these, but the market seem to be overflowed with options. Everything from $2 China stuff to more expensive stuff, and with various connections/interfaces. For older laptops/desktops that still uses the LPT port, a POST card with the LPT would be enough, while for newer laptops, a card with Mini PCI E seems to be the only viable option. So a card (Or maybe even several cards) that covers the Mini PCI / Mini PCI E and the LPT connections would be good.

I also see that some cards use USB, but as far as I can see the USB is only needed for powering the card. If I'm not wrong, the BIOS sends an error code to a I/O port that is only accessible trough PCI or LPT.

So if anyone here can recommend a proper card/cards, that they know work and give reliable output I would be interested in hearing from you.
