Core 2 Duo models- BIOS Upate

#1 Post by vinuneuro » Tue Jan 04, 2011 11:23 am

Relatively new, but doesn't show up on the main drivers page but does if you go into the BIOS page or through System Update. I missed it through System Update until today since I've been avoiding the previous version which caused my screen to pixelate. That's fixed now and the CPU microcode update sounds pretty important. Can anyone who knows about this subject suggest what they might have changed?

Lenovo Support - BIOS update utility for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad R400, T400

BIOS: 3.21 / ECP: 1.06

* (New) Added new microcode of CPU.
* (Fix) Fixed an issue where the system might not be able to start if a certain HDD was installed.
* (Fix) Fixed an issue where the 1680 by 1050 resolution does not work with a certain external monitor.

There is no more information other than what Lenovo published as changes and you've copied here. I can tell you that I've flashed this BIOS on both a T400 and an R400 and it works fine. Do it with the bootable CD, and not the Windows .exe. There have been reported instances of folks bricking their laptops with the windows .exe BIOS updates. Oh, and be aware that if you flash this BIOS it may default to Compatibility mode for your hard drive, so immediately go into BIOS and make sure that ACHI is set before booting the OS.

Has anyone installed this BIOS yet? Is it still plagued with the problem the previous version had with oddly colored pixels showing up all over the screen?

It seems only some people had the pixelation problem with the previous version. I was one of them, but it seems to be resolved with this one.

I was one of them too, which is why I asked. I went back to 3.18 after trying the last release, and have been hoping they'd fix it this time around.

Hi!

Is this bios available only via system update? I prefer flashing with iso as in most cases flashing from windows does nothing (to my system) and I am unable to find this version on support pages.

Thanks,
b.

So just a follow-up regarding my question on graphics corruption from the old 3.19 (for 7U* BIOS types)--it is indeed still present in the new 3.21 BIOS update. Looks like it's back to 3.18 again for me.

Yea, it's definitely still there. When I made the posts in this thread I was using the integrated graphics. In discrete graphics the pixelation comes up again but is more subtle than in 3.19. I'm back to 3.18 also since the issues the last two updates addressed never came up in my machine to being with.
