X60: Vista or XP?

#1 Post by JonathanGennick » Wed Jan 05, 2011 10:48 am

I just bought a very nice X60 via eBay. I have a choice between running Vista or XP. Are there any battery-life differences these days between those two systems? I recall complaints from years ago, but have those early problems mostly been resolved?

From my personal experience I'd suggest staying with XP. They work really well, boots fast(er), and are generally more enjoyable (or cause less issues). Vista is probably the most annoying and poor designed OS I've tried. Apart from BNG graphics there's not much functional benefit comparing to XP. Can't commend about battery life though. On my R500 it's easily over 4 hrs with 6-cell.

To put things into perspective, if you're happy with single-speed, why go for fancy Hammerschmidt? ;)

Have you installed NotebookHardwareControl ? underclocking saves power and heat.
