X60s Core 2 Duo Vs Core Duo
X60s Core 2 Duo Vs Core Duo
Hi, I have just on impulse purchased on ebay (im gonna have to stop this) what appears to be an x60s with core 2 duo, dont see them to often so thought i would grab it (still have to pay for it).
Now just checked on here & read a few things about possible overheating & high temps.
With hindsight was this a mistake?
Any advantages over the standard x60s ( I have no plans on running 64 bit)
I now own 3 x60s & one will definately have to get sold (trying to make the best descision about which one to unload)
Cheers

Re: X60s Core 2 Duo Vs Core Duo
Given the same speed, Core 2 Duo's will perform maybe 5 to 10% better than Core Duo CPU's in CPU intensive tasks/programs/tests due to faster front side bus speeds and larger L2 caches. If you do not run CPU intensive tasks/programs consistently you will not notice a difference. I don't think the heat complaints on this model were CPU related since they were mostly palm rest heat complaints. The CPU is not beneath the palm rest. I think it is due to the WiFi card.

Correct Harry....It's the wifi card underneath the palmrest that is generating heat...I've had a couple myself.........Harryc wrote:Given the same speed, Core 2 Duo's will perform maybe 5 to 10% better than Core Duo CPU's in CPU intensive tasks/programs/tests due to faster front side bus speeds and larger L2 caches. Re: X60s Core 2 Duo Vs Core Duo
I totally confirm. My X60s has always been pretty hot to the touch in normal use until today. I got a faster wireless PC Card adapter and disabled the internal Intel wifi card. The X60s is actually cool now. Much more comfortable to handle (and faster now with dual band AGN card).dorronto wrote: Correct Harry....It's the wifi card underneath the palmrest that is generating heat...I've had a couple myself.........

Re: X60s Core 2 Duo Vs Core Duo
Comparing X60s Core Duo and X60s Core 2 Duo, the C2D chip runs WAY WAY WAY hotter. It's not even a question. I had them both, and I compared it.
I would recommend sticking with the Core Duo version. I did

Thanks very much for the replys, hardly seems worth the extra for the miniscule performance improvement & as the processor is slightly lower speed will probably be about the same.
Ivan, thanks a lot for that it was one of your threads i was reading.
It should arrive next week so i will give it a test run - see what figures i get on speed fan, maybe fry a few eggs on it

You can lower the power consumption by using RMClock by a large margin.blink wrote:Thanks very much for the replys, hardly seems worth the extra for the miniscule performance improvement & as the processor is slightly lower speed will probably be about the same.
