i386 folder?

#1 Post by JLai » Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:29 pm

Is the C:\i386 folder necessary? Or is it the same as say...the C:\Drivers folder and deletable?

I've been hearing mixed things.

Thanx ahead.

If you have already made all the restore CDs then you don't really need it.
One thing about it is that it contains all the Windows installation files and sometimes when you want to add windows components if you have the i386 folder, windows will not ask you to insert Windows CD, but will get all the files from the i386 folder.

Also you can use it to make bootable Windows CD if you would rather install windows from scratch without using IBM restore CDs.

It does not really hurt to have it there.

If you really need the space, burn it on cd. Otherwise just keep it.
