No wireless connection -- 2200BG and Linksys WRK54G

#1 Post by kc » Fri Mar 18, 2005 2:49 pm

I'm staying at a relative's home and cannot connect to their Linksys router. Per the advice on this forum, I have updated the 2200BG driver to the latest version (.28) and IBM ACCESS Connection to 3.7 version.

No matter how I try, the card fails to connect (associate is the error term) to the wireless router. As best as I can tell, WEP or other security is not enabled on the router. In fact, I looked at the settings of a Dell wireless computer and card that works in the house and I have duplicated all the settings for the 2200BG.

I'd welcome any suggestions on a fix.

Thanks.

Could they be filtering by MAC address?

Are they broadcasting the SSID?

Have you tried entering the SSID manually into Access Connections for this particular WAP?

Are you sure the card is ON? (Fn+F5)

Have you verified that mac address filtering is turned off on the router? many times if you do mac filtering, you'll see an 'unsecured' network, but it won't provision you an IP address as the mac address of your wireless card isn't on the table.

Thanks for the suggestions. Radio is on.

1. When I scan, the software indicated 54G on channel 6. However, in infrastructure mode, there is no way to change it. Thoughts?

2. Regarding MAC addresses, I'll give that a try when my relatives come home.

Thanks.

have you just tried to go into the router and see for yourself?

Mac addressing is under the wireless tab

I ran into a similar problemo after updating the drivers. I solved it after telling the router to revert to factory settings.
