T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
hi,
For sometime I have tried to fix a issue with T noise from my Thinkpad T410S. the noise sounds like noise from and "old" harddisk, but as my laptop have a SSD it could not be from that!!!
Afther several frustrating weeks with the noise - i found a solution. Here it is:
In BIOS you need to select CONFIG --> POWER -->CPU Power management --> select Disable
This has ended the noise. I do not know if this will affect the battery-life.

Presumably this will cause the CPU to run at full pelt at all times, which will have an effect on your battery performance.
What an odd problem!

Very likely that the issue that you are experiencing right now corresponds to the same issue in the thread above; the very same solution is proposed and alleviates the problem for a portion of people.

Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
There is finally an official fix for this problem. It involves having the machine serviced by Lenovo.

Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
Sounds like the fix isn't so good, based on the limited feedback in that thread after repairs have been made. My T410s too suffers this issue (really annoying if the machine is on at night in the same room). Not sure if it is worth having it repaired...
Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
My computer is still under warranty.
Does this mean I can send it to them and have it fixed?
I read this thread and am wondering since I allready sent the laptop for a fix, if I could demand a replacement because the problem is still there?

Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
With my T410s I found that it was actually the power brick that was making the noise. Lenovo replaced the brick but the replacement did the same thing, so I tried swapping the brick with an aftermarket one from my T61 and that solved the problem. I don't know why, but the Lenovo brick doesn't make those noises when used with the T61.
Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
What brick are you talking about?
It happens that I have a T61 under my bed.

Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
It makes no difference on mine - the noise is there on battery as well.
Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
Its a made-in-China no-name aftermarket 90W brick (AC adapter) from ebay. T61 and T410s bricks are interchangeable.andpgud wrote:What brick are you talking about?
When using the computer (either T61 or T410s), I have the brick on the desk just behind the computer, which is why I originally thought the noises were from the T410s itself. If the noises from yours are coming from the computer itself, swapping the bricks probably won't help you.
Re: T410s - frustrating noise - solution !!!
I have a Fujitsu Lifebook T730 tablet PC with the Core i3-350m that does the same thing. I thought it was the hard drive, so I dropped in a Corsair Force 3 90GB SSD. The noise is still there. The battery life on that thing is so bad already (less than 2.5 hrs). If the BIOS power throttling was disabled, what about Windows 7 power throttling? Would that be an acceptable substitute?
