You need the i386 folder (at least Windows needs it). You can easily delete the Value Add folder (I did). You can, but I would not, delete the IBM Tools Folder (It's a way home if need original drivers). ... JD Hurst

To run, your Thinkpad does not need any of the ValueAdd, IBMTools, DRIVERS and even i386 folder at all. However, the i386 is all installation files for Windows XP and you had paid for it dearly, so why just delete it?
Windows may need this folder to look for a very specific file once every many years but that is extremely rare now.

The other folders contain the files that IBM has for download at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PAD-MATRIX plus some other software such the DVD reproductor and burner.

Easy solution you have so, just burn these folders to a some good CD or DVD disk and enjoy the extra 1.5GB of space in your HDD. [/b]
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)

Well I assume it's the preSP2 windows installation folder, however I have the recovery disks so I figure I don't need them.

hum... I think that is not all that good Merlyn... Those recovery disks has all those folders but compressed and you cannot use them without formating your HDD!!!

Just burn them, at least the i386 and if you are using them, Sonic and WinDVD too. It will fit all in a single CD. Man... it is just $0.20... I´ll send it to you if need it!!! :D

Meh...it's done....I have a spare XP SP2 cd laying around from another computer, plus I have those recovery disks, so I really don't forsee needing that on the hard drive. I wanna look into streamlining SP2 do the recovery disk though.
