Cracked Thinkpad X60 can I use X30/x40/x41 non tablet LCD

#1 Post by johnyyz » Thu Jan 13, 2011 10:52 am

I bought this x60 4 weeks ago used for $140 with dead battery. During xmas at the airport I dropped my backpack and the LCD is cracked.
I am planning to replace the LCD screen via ebay and for x60/x61 LCD listings they start at $100+shipping. Around $140 ish. But the X30,X40.X41 are most of the time half price. Since all screens are XGA and 12.1inch can I use these interchangebly?
Especially if I buy LCDs that come with the cable and inverter?

I opened the LCD and here are my FRUs
Product name:X60 X61 LCD Panel
Part Number: LTN121XJ-L07
PN:13N7096 FRU:13N7095

Many thanks

No.

The screens you're after are:
- Chi Mei N121X5-L06
- Samsung LTN121XJ-L07
- BOE-Hydis HT121X01-101

AFAIK the only one of those that was used in earlier models is the BOE-Hydis HT121X01-101, which was used in the X32 (and possibly earlier X30-series machines, although I can't confirm this.)

There are almost certainly other screens out there which are electrically and physically compatible, but without consulting the datasheets I couldn't tell you what they are.

One more piece of (unsolicited) advice: if you're buying a screen off eBay, avoid sellers that simply offer screens that are "compatible" with a given model of panel. In my experience they are almost always incorrect, and many of them seem to be incapable of understanding that there's much more to panel compatibility than the size and the placement of the LVDS connector.
