Memory Parity Error on T60 after changing system board

#1 Post by ciorbarece » Thu Jan 13, 2011 5:46 pm

Hi, after I replaced the dead motherboard from my t60 8741w83 15,4" widesreen I get the following error message when trying to install windows7 or Windows Vista:

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
*** The system has halted
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

The mobo I changed is one for t60 widescreen 15,4", the only difference to my old mobo ist that it sports a v5250 firegl, and the old one sported an ati x1400.

The strange thing is that I get the message when trying to install windows. I tried to install Win7 but after finishing "Windows is loading files" the system starts the animation of win7 starting after which the parity check error occurs.

The same thing with my original recovery CDs. After "windows is loading files" I get the same error message and the system halts.

Sometimes though I don't even get the message and the system halts with a black screen.

Here's what I've done in order to fix the issue, without success:

1) I messed around in BIOS with everything from disabling every port possible, turning wireless and internal network off, turning literally everything off that can be turned off, without any success though. Changed IRQs, setted IRQs to auto-detect, disabled IRQs, still no success.

2) I have 2x1GB RAM installed, removing one after another and changing the RAM Banks hasn't helped either. Even a complety other RAM hasn't helped.

3) I removed the HD and put it in an enclosure and connected it via USB, no chance.

4) Windows XP also can't be installed, system halts with black screen after a while.

5) I also disconnected the modem card and the wireless card from the mainboard, still no fix at all.

Now I'm completely clueless, the only thing I can think of is that the Bios is somewhat old, it's from 2007. But I created a boot CD with the bios update from lenovo, but that won't boot at all.

Could it be the memory controller? That's what I'm guessing right now. Or could there by any other cause for the trouble with the thing?

Man I'm exhausted, since 2 days I'm trying everything to make the bloody thing work. but no chance....

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Not sure if this will help - maybe it does .....((as I had kinda similar thing ~long time ago while installing Win7x64 ...long story short- it was due to two things > MB internal bus-short & Driver for the Graphics (CHIP faulty!!)
