Upgrading T43

#1 Post by sonoma » Sat Mar 19, 2005 5:33 am

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to use SATA hard disks on T43's? I'm aware that SATA drives for laptops are not yet available but I'd like to replace th 40GB PATA HDD on my T43 with a SATA drive at a later date, if possible.

Also, I am wondering if the built-in sound card on T43's is Intel High-Definition Audio (Azalia) that supports 7.1-channel audio and a host of audio formats such as DVD Audio, Dolby Digital Surround EX, THX and DTS-ES.

Thank you in advance.

SATA - no, the T43 does not support SATA drives. Parallel ATA and Serial ATA use completely different connectors.

Azalia - The T43 does not use the Intel audio. I have no idea why, but IBM seems to have stayed with the SoundMax audio chip found in the other T4x series.

It's really a bummer that all these new technologies aren't being used in the T43, but I supsect this has something to do with keeping compatible parts and drivers accross the entire T4x line.
