a22m - no boot, just a quick HD lite flash -- parts machine?

#1 Post by BillMS » Mon Jan 17, 2011 12:54 pm

Hi -- as Subject says: all I see is a very quick flash of the HD lite, on every push of 1/o pushbutton. No other sounds at all. Course, it can't boot off a CD either.

Really did search the forum here, and other places too. Did many of the 'standard things' -- very carefully, I hope (even the multiple/hold down i/o switch incantations <G>). Nothing (I tried) alters the outcome at all.

Stripped the various parts -- down to re-seating CPU (didn't do it, however -- stopped by a screw on the fan assy; too tight to get it out, buggered phillips head -- so quit for now).

Even changed the 2032 CMOS battery.

[An aside question: somebody said CMOS battery is required to power the starting solenoid. That seems odd to me -- that's a lot to ask of a 2032. Is this correct? Anyway, new 2032 didn't help.]

It is a shame, because this a22m (2633 TTU) had *very* use since I got in April '04 (I bought it refurnished from IBM, just to support a friend for awhile).

Any words of wisdom, or hope, gratefully accepted. Even the 'no hope' outlook.

Most likely a dead duck.

Search the forum for "Blink Of Death" aka BOD which is common on A2x and pre-T23 T2x units...many stories, but no known cure.

Good luck.

>>Most likely a dead duck<<

Thanks, George, for the response, even if it was bad news -- altho I suspected as much.

I will do some further searches, as you suggest. I didn't about the 'BOD' label. :(

When you say "common on A2x and pre-T23 T2x units.." -- I guess that includes my 600/600e too. My T21&T22 seem OK (last time I run them -- months ago).

Time to search the forum for opinions on the 'better/best' models to replace my poor ol' a22m.

Thanks again,

Bill

Actually, BOD is not at all common on 600 series - just on A2x/T2x...

Good luck.
