Mepis + T60?

#1 Post by Frank_v7 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 4:49 pm

Anyone using Mepis 8.5 on a T60 type 2007 with x1300 ATI graphics? I had 8.0 installed, but when I installed 8.5 I found ATI didn't support x1300 graphics for that kernel. So my choice is use an older version and have flgrx acceleration or use the newer version and have vesa graphics. Of course I have my original Win XP installation, but for security I prefer linux.

I don't have experience with mepis but on recent kernels, the stock mesa drivers are working very well with my x1300 (I currently have 2.6.35) including 3D. According to distrowatch, mepis 8.5 still has a 2.6.32 kernel where mesa might indeed act a little bumpy. For me, vesa would be no option, the speed decrease is significant. You might want to consider trying the mepis 11 beta release, which, according to www.mepis.org/node/153 , seems to have 2.6.36.

Thanks for the reply. I have Mepis 10.9.88 beta 1 running on my desktop. I hadn't thought to try it on my T60. I'll give it a shot.
