@RBS: That is so old it deserves an award. Nevertheless it is a good one, if you catch my drift.

There is no definitive answer to this riddle, as it is essentially indeterminate.

If the question is bound to "Kittens, cats, sacks, and wives", then the answer is anywhere between 0 and 2,800, as it is indeterminate whether "the man" was actually accompanied by the wives and their accoutrements, and what the travel intention of each of the wifes (etc) was as well.

If the question is bound to "I", it would be at least 1 and possibly as many as 2,802 (every entity mentioned) since it is indeterminate what direction the man was travelling and whether he was actually accompanied by the wives and their accoutrements, and what the travel intentions of each of the wifes (etc) was as well.

As I was going to St Ives
I met a man with seven wives
Of course, the seven wives weren't his
But here in France, that's how it is

Mmm it's strange which parts of the brain are more active on some people than others.

Not all of us live by that rot 13 coding.

Life is much easier if you look at the clues. For example, the smallpox cure was realised by Dr Jenner who noticed that people who worked with cattle never got the disease ... because they were infected with cowpox. (They did get TB though. )

Anyway, January will soon be out of the way.

Meanwhile, we need a new brain teaser. Who's next?

I'm Irish, born of a Dutch father and a German mother, raised by an English nanny, spent years in boarding school, lived almost half of my life in Switzerland, currently domiciled in the USA.

Two children were born by the same mother on exactly the same day within minutes of each other. They aren't twins. Explain please. :?:

This one's easy: 'in vitro fertilization' :P

Or, if you don't like that answer, maybe she's a surrogate, doubling up on $duty$, heh, heh.

Well, the usual answer to this one is that they're TRIPLETS, not twins...BUT, I'd guess they were really quads or maybe one of the Octo-Mom's kids, which'd make 'em 8-lets... :P

Correct, AMATX, they are triplets. :) Another child was born to the same mother a few minutes later ... just as the clock ticked past midnight so it wasn't born on exactly the same day.

It is nearly the end of dreary January. So here is a final question:-

What navigational device was on board both of the following:
  • Endeavour, the Apollo 15 Command Module.
    Endeavour, Captain Cook's ship.

Agreed, the SR71 is a no-brainer, I'd have to look up Glenn's plane though.
