Thinkpad Edge 14 Keyboard Key Shift+r not working

Hi,

Im having Thinkpad Edge 14 running in intel i3 and windows 7 professional (32-bit).. Im having a weird problem since i bought this..

When i press Shift+r to put in a capital R in notepad / word / any other typing places it is not showing up immediately as like other keys.. i need to press and hold shift+r for around 3 secs for this to key in.. im using the lappy built-in keys and not using external keyboard.. does anyone have problems of this kind and got it resolved..?

any help please...

If you are using factory installed Windows and the Edge is recently new, then it's probably a defect which is covered by warranty. I'd take it back where you bought it for an exchange --provided you bought it locally from a store. If you got it from Amazon.com, it has a 30-day no questions return and refund
or exchange policy. They pay return postage. Just read the policy carefully.

Otherwise, find a local authorized Lenovo service shop & have them repair or replace the keyboard. They are easily replaced. Whatever you do, do it right away. If you can do a retailer exchange that is you fastest and easiest option.

Thanks bruised.. But the problem is not related to the physical failure of keyboard.. The key 'r' is working good.. I tested it with Interactive test in Think Vantage Toolkit.. It seems like a weird problem that not even one in heaven & hell have faced.. :(

If you boot into safe mode and open up notepad, does the same issue occur? How about when booting a DOS CD or a Linux Live CD?

Hi Harry,

i tried it in Safemode.. Its working good.. but i cant figure out which service/application takes control of it on normal startup..

You'll need to use a tool called msconfig to isolate which driver or service is causing the issue.

Thanks a million for your guidance.. Resolved now.. It worked fine after i stopped Think Vantage Password Manager Application.. 'Shift+r' is a HotKey to recall password stored in the vault.. i changed it to some other key combination.. I have been struggling with this for almost 3 months..

Glad to help. It figures it's some Lenovo induced problem. I am not really liking Lenovo applications these days ...

It does seem utterly ridiculous to assign a hotkey to Shift+letter. If this is the default of the application, I wonder where their QA team was when God was giving out brains. :)
