My T30 has the IBM/Synaptics UltraNav TouchPad
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/UltraNav
By default (on my T30 anyway), XP loads two exes »
SynTPLpr.exe
SynTPEnh.exe - which usually runs at a minimum of 5% CPU usage
According to the following »
http://searchtasks.answersthatwork.com/ ... e=SynTPEnh
Synaptics drivers are notorious for unreasonable CPU usage.
I do not even have any of the enhancement options enabled,
so I don't see why SynTPEnh.exe should use so much CPU usage.
I have found a way to "gracefully" kill SynTPEnh.exe.
If SynTPEnh.exe is not "gracefully" killed, the UNav does not function properly ...
Does anyone have any solution that allows keeping those exes active? without unreasonalbe CPU usage?
SynTPEnh.exe Performance Problems
Re: SynTPEnh.exe Performance Problems
Have you tried uninstalling the Synaptics driver to see if the native Windows drivers will take over managing the touchpad operation properly? I've done this previously on Compaq and Dell laptops where the owner wanted more resources freed up. From my experience, once the Synaptics drivers are uninstalled, Windows takes over managing the touchpad and trackpoint without a problem.
My Laptop Collection:
IdeaPad Z570, 8gb RAM & Win 7 Home Premium / Win 8.1 Pro
Toshiba A75-S206, 1.5gb RAM & Windows 7 Home Premium
ThinkPad T-22 (Formerly a T-20), 512mb RAM & Win XP Pro

Re: SynTPEnh.exe Performance Problems
Greetings.
Thanks for the reply.
I have not (yet) tried uninstalling the drivers and
might not - based on my experience per the following »

The Compaq/Dell laptops probably do not have the IBM UNav -
maybe just the Synaptics TouchPad?
Anyway, my Gateway mx3228 has a (non-IBM) Synaptics TouchPad
and does not work properly under a PE boot either.
Based on my PE boot (with no UNav/Synaptics drivers) experience,
I would guess uninstalling the drivers would not work for me ...
I guess the only way to know for sure would be to try ...
but I don't know if I will do that.
I am open to any other potential solutions ...
Thanks for the reply.
