Window leaves trails whenever another window is behind it.
Window leaves trails whenever another window is behind it.
If I drag a window over another window, the window I am dragging leaves trails behind it. SOmetimes 4 or 5 images of itself dragging behind about 1/4" apart from each other, and sometimes many many images of itself, enough to fill the whole screen. These disappear after about 3 seconds.
I just replaced the motherboard with a brand new one, and haven't updated the bios or created the serial number and model # in the eeprom. I have to get a floppy drive for the serial and model # input.
Any suggestions appreciated. It is annoying and just makes me think something is not right, like the video isn't refreshing right. The new motherboard has the newer video chip (FIRE GL 5250)and the old one had the older one (FIREGL 5200). I am using the same hard drive and didn't reload the os after changing the motherboard. Just inserted the drive from the old motherboard.
My machine specs
T60p 2007-93u
1600x1200 BOE Hydis IPS LCD display
Windows xp professional 32
Intel t2600 cpu 2.16mhz
ati firegl 5250 gpu
2 GB ram in 2 separate sticks (weird brand name Aeneon)
60GB SSD OCZ Vertex 2
I am going to change the ram sticks to mushkin because it has strange ones in there.
I guess I will try to put a new bios too.
I don't know if these things would help. I wonder if the gpu in the new motherboard is involved...
I don't particularly care about the trails themselves, but if it is having that problem, I think it will have other problems too, because something is not working right. And also the trails weren't there before.
THanks

This sounds like a video driver issue to me. Deinstall the current ATI driver and install this one -

thanks, but thats the one i have...installed it last week. should i try it again? uninstall then install?
I just noticed that the problem is mostly only with internet explorer. I mainly use mozilla that is why I didn't notice this problem.
I say mostly because when I drag an internet explorer window over another window, it can leave trails all the way across the screen. If I drag it in a circle, you can see 100 instances of the window all around in a circle, then they go away. When I drag a mozilla firefox window over another window, it only trails one instance of itself, at most 1" behind the original window. And usually only 1/2" or less. And it disappears faster too. In other words, almost no problem at all. In face maybe no problem. I would have to compare to another machine.
I guess no need to really spend time on this. I guess it is not important if it is only with microsoft ie program.

Boot up a Live Linux CD and see if the behavior is different. This still sounds like an OS or mis-behaving driver problem to me. If your CPU has high utilization, other tasks and programs will delay in opening. Check out task manager. With an SSD in that machine you should not be seeing any long freezes or delays.
