Help! 701C has lost it's Vertical hold

#1 Post by todreich@hotmail.com » Sat Jun 12, 2004 1:20 pm

i just picked up a really nice 701C butterfly notebook and eveythign is just peachy save that the screen will not stop rolling. It's moving just lke an older T.V. would when the vertical hold needed to be tweaked. The occurs from the very very moment of start up so I don't think that it is a driver issue for the W95 that is on the hard drive. If there a BIOS setting that would disturb the machine? I checked the power supply to ensure the voltage was clean. This unit has no battery to speak of and I am simply at a loss. I have not opened the case yet. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Check the LCD cable. If you need help, use the Hardware Maintenance Manual Volume. You need torx T1 and T6 screwdriver.

I just wanted to say, "Thank You!" I finally got a small enough torx bit to take the thing apart and after three or four wiggles to get the sockets cleared the screen went back to working like a charm! Now I just need to get my "m" key to work and I am home free. It's the only key that has bit the dust so far. Wish me luck. 8 megs and W95 not withstanding this comp looks like she's going to be tons of fun!
Thanks again!

You're welcome. If you need parts for the 701 (keyboard etc.) look around ebay, or email Bill (bill@thinkpads.com), he has some.
