Static electricity shock on the fingerprint reader

#1 Post by thinkpac » Sat Jan 22, 2011 2:38 pm

A couple of times now today, I have placed my right hand onto the palmrest of my T60, and I got a bit of a static electricity shock when my hand touched the fingerprint reader. Kind of surprising, since both times my hands were still a little bit wet since I had just washed them. Anyway, I hope that these static shocks don't end up damaging my T60.

At this point I don't suspect that it's actually a problem with the T60. Probably due to the cold weather and the fact that I had walked around on the carpet for a bit prior to both instances of the static shock. I'm not getting any shocks touching the fingerprint reader right now, after being in front of it for a while.

I was just curious if the static shock could end up damaging the T60. Maybe I should put some electrical tape over the fingerprint reader, because I don't even use it.

I don't think you'll damage the FPR, but the tape is a good idea for your own personal comfort.
