Latest ThinkVantage HDD protection update cannot install...

#1 Post by Yacek » Sun Jan 23, 2011 7:56 am

Hi, I downloaded the latest release of HDD protect (6isk10ww.exe). When trying to install I instantly get the message that the system is set up by administrator to prevent such installation... any idea how to override it ? UAC is switched off, disabling firewall and antivir does not help.... I'm working on administrator account...

I run win7 x64 and the release is dedicated to this system... previous release is running with no probs.

It installed fine on my T61p with Windows 7 64-bit. I have UAC *on* and it requires me to approve the installation of the package which I did. My working Windows 7 userid is a member of the administrators group.

I noticed it wanted to expand the driver into swtools instead of C:\Drivers. I deleted C:\drivers\win7\hprotect.V64 and expanded into C:\drivers\win7\hprotect. The folder name for this version is different than the folder name for this application going back as far as Vista. So I don't know if that has caused some confusion.

I would do this:

1. Download 6isk10ww.exe again.
2. Uninstall the application (control panel)
3. Delete all expand folders (c:\drivers\win and swtools).
4. Shut down.
5. Restart and try again. I am still partial to c:\drivers because most Lenovo tools still expand there anyway.

Certainly the new version works just fine on my T61p. ... JDH
