How to restart a T61?

#1 Post by kingman99 » Sun Jan 23, 2011 12:22 pm

Hi

For some reason my battery does not hold a charge and then l picked up another battery and then l had the same problem.

I played with the Bios loking for something and then it appears my hard drive failed.

I brought it into the geek squad and they said that my charger failed but it's new and then they told me that the hard drive went and l should buy a new one.

What will l need to get the T61 up and running again? I was advised where to pick up the hard drive but what about the xp pro cd
etc?

Thanks

Alan

PS l was going to sell the T61 but l was told that l could have blown the mother board and then it would be a waste of time.

My unit can get the micro welcome screen and everything relating to F1 F2 F10 F11. I ran a diagnostic on the hard drive and said it failed

It seems odd to me that by just playing with BIOS that the hard drive failed. Let me ask you, if you go into BIOS and into configuration, then SATA, what is the current setting? Try changing it and saving/exiting BIOS.

Bios setup utility

config

date/time
security
startup
restart
hdd diagnostic program

then it lists
BIOS version 2.09
BIOs date
embedded controller version
etc etc

nothing that mentions SATA

You'll need recovery CD's. Post a WTB Ad in the Marketplace forum.

One more thing to try before buying anything. Download Hitachi Drive Fitness Test. Run the long test. It will report on the bad sectors. At that point, you will have the option to repair the sectors. If the repair is successful and the sector problem wasn't in the restore partition, you will be able to restore from the partition.
