Minor problems with Ultrabay SATA adapter & Hitachi 7K500

#1 Post by lukee » Mon Jan 24, 2011 4:19 am

Hello, I've a minor problems with my UltraBay SATA adapter for HDD and the Hitachi 7K500 hard drive. It seems it won't work plug&play. When I attach the HDD into the bay, it is not recognized by Windows 7, however after restart I can see it then. On the HDD are three partitions: NTFS volume with Windows data, ext4 with Ubuntu 10.10 and linux swap volume. There is GRUB loader in boot sector installed. After restart I can see the NTFS volume with no problems, when attached I can't. Where could be a problem?

Check if your HD has a jumper to limit the speed to SATA I (150).
That should solve it.

Is your adapter genuine or knock-off?
The latter are known for having problems, especially with larger size HDs.

Well, it should be genuine adapter, because there was Thinkpad sticker on it, but I removed it to allow a better movement of the caddy in the UltraBay.

Hi,

On the Western digital drives there is a jumper location. I looked up at the Hitachi drive and it look like ther is a space for a jumper next to where the data cable would hook up.

It would be only four pins. Remember I am looking at a diagram. Another thought might be that the Grub boot loader in your
boot sector causing Windows to choke...
